WEEK 2: Taming Rehearsals.

BY KATRINA SPREYER

Third rehearsal and we were given the scripts!! Exccittiinnggg!!! We had a read through of the beginning of the play, each taking it in turn to be Petruchio and Katharina, the two lead characters. We then discover that there will be 3 performers performing the roles of katharina and Petruchio, which creates really interesting dynamics within the characters as well as being visually interesting on stage, which hopefully will be really exciting for the audience to watch, come the performance. In the latter part of the rehearsal we were given our part and set to working on the first scenes. Very exciting stuff. I was given the role of Bianca which entails me being bound and slapped about by katharina. Might have to get out the olde knee pads if I take method acting to the extreme, me thinksJ. But overall it was a really productive and fun rehearsal.

Rehearsal 4:

In this rehearsal I observed the rehearsal, watching the scenes and characters develop. The three performers playing Petruchio and Katharina started to collaborate their different personas in their characters. They also stated to delve into identifying themselves as different parts of Petruchio’s character while still having mannerisms that symbolise that they are all part of one character. I think over the next few rehearsals it’s going to be really interesting to watch how these characters develop.
